Police in Mpigi and Butambala Districts are investigating circumstances under which a man was reportedly killed after testifying in a land case at Mpigi Magistrates Court.
Eye witnesses who spoke to this reporter after the incident on Thursday afternoon (May 18) said that Ibrahim Bazanye, 28, a resident of Butaaka Village in Butambala District, was seen engaging in a scuffle with his abductors a few meters from Mpigi Magistrates Court premises before they pushed him into a waiting saloon car and drove off.
“It is true he was forced into their (abductors) small car, but we neither got their faces nor the car’s registration number. He cried out loudly, but it was too late for us to rescue him because we didn’t have a vehicle to chase them,” an eye witness, who narrated the incident on condition of anonymity, said.
Later, police and relatives recovered the body which was dumped at the roadside near St Lawrence College, Paris Palais at Nakirebe Village, Mpigi Town Council along the Kampala-Masaka highway.
The body was taken to City Mortuary at Mulago National Referral Hospital for post-mortem.
Mr Joseph Musana, Katonga regional police publicist said police received the information about the kidnap late and could not intercept the kidnappers.
“We are still gathering information and I am certain the perpetuators are going to be arrested,” he said.
Sources in Butaaka Village say the deceased had wrangles over a certain piece of land in Butambala district with some of his family members and the land was belonging to their late father, Ali Ssegane who was also allegedly killed in April last year over wrangles on the same piece of land.
According to sources, Police in Butambala District have arrested a one Jumah Kawarabu, a brother to the deceased and detained him at Kibibi Police Station to help them with investigations.
Police found court documents and a budget of the late Sseggane’s last funeral rites besides Bazanye’s body and preliminary investigations have revealed that the “abductors” made off with the deceased’s laptop.
