The body was first seen on Wednesday morning by brick makers who then informed the police.
Police pulled the body out of water at around midday and took it to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary before they started investigations into the death.

He is said to have been shot dead by unknown armed thugs near the bridge last Friday night.

On the same day, police spokesperson for Rwizi region Polly Namaye said armed thugs staged a roadblock at the bridge at around 10pm before robbing and severely injuring Mr and Ms Hassan Kamukama as they travelled home from the town centre where they operate a restaurant.
Mr Kamukama was shot six times in the leg while the wife was shot once.

They were admitted to Mbarara hospital where they are still undergoing treatment.
Ms Namaye said when police visited the scene; they found a bunch of teeth in a pool of blood, but could not tell where it came from, not until Wednesday when Amanya’s body was recovered with missing teeth.
