Man commits suicide after impregnating his daughter

Buikwe- A 43-year-old boda boda cyclist has committed suicide upon learning that he impregnated his 17-year-old daughter.

Isma  Lubuwa, a resident of  Mbiko  in Njeru  Municipality reportedly swallowed poison on Friday. He was rushed to Jinja Hospital   but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mr  Samuel Obo,  a friend of the deceased, who is also a  boda boda operator on Oboja  Road  Stage  in Jinja town,  said   on Thursday  that Lubuwa recently wanted to  sell  his  motorcycle  without  giving a  reason.

“It was this morning when I learnt that he committed suicide,” Mr Obo said.   

According  to some residents,  the deceased    separated  with  his wife  with whom they sired four children,  due  to  domestic  violence;  leaving the children  with  their  father  in Mbiko town. 

However, a neighbour told Daily Monitor on condition of anonymity that Lubuwa was sexually abusing his daughter but the girl feared to report the matter to neighbours   or police.

Ssezibwa Regional Police Spokesperson, Ms Hellen Butoto confirmed the incident saying the matter is under investigation.

“Residents have told police that he was having sexual intercourse with his daughter and after realising the girl was pregnant, he committed suicide.  As police, we are going to talk to the girl,” Ms   Butoto said.

Ms Butoto said the girl has since denied that she is 17 years old claiming that she is 18, the consent age.

In her statement, according to Ms Butoto, the girl informed police that her boyfriend is responsible for the pregnancy not her deceased father, as some people claim.
