KAMPALA. Democratic Party (DP) President, Mr Norbert Mao, has advised Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago to settle their matters with Kampala Minister Ms Beti Kamya out of court.

While addressing the media at the party head offices in Kampala today, Mr Mao said that instead of going to court, Mr Lukwago could have sought a political solution to his issues with Ms Kamya.

“I do not think the solution only lies in the court. This thing required that all of us who want the city that is centered around the people, be supportive to Lukwago,” Mr Mao said.

He added that DP will take time to meet Mr Lukwago and agree on the solution which is political because Ms Kamya is not a legal problem, she is rather a political problem which must be solved politically.

On Monday, Mr Lukwago sued MS Kamya for her alleged persistent interference and blocking of his trips abroad.

In his suit filed at the Kampala High Court, Mr Lukwago among others, points out the ongoing World Bank conference in Malaysia in which he was invited but the minister refused to clear him without giving any reason/s.

“The practice of subjecting my official travels to the arbitrary and subjective decision or grant of a permit by the minister is irrational, preposterous and constitutes an egregious infringement and abuse of my rights and liberties,” Mr Lukwago states in his suit before court.

According to Mao, minister Kamya has an agenda to fail the Lord Mayor.
“Worse still, the appointing authority that put Ms Kamya in that office had an agenda of failing Mr Lukwago. We have seen past courts cases filed by Mr Lukwago against the government baring little or no fruits,” Mr Mao said.

Meanwhile, at the same press conference, DP resolved to back the Forum for Democratic Change’s candidate, Mr Paul Mwiru, in Jinja East MP by-elections set for March 15 this year.
