The Katikkiro says Buganda still has several projects like construction of a hospital and refurbishing Mengo palace.

Kampala- Buganda’s premier Charles Peter Mayiga has appealed to kingdom subjects to act instead of talking if they want to develop.

Speaking during his monthly tour of the progress of work at Masengere (Bulange Plaza), the Katikkiro also tasked the subjects to be innovative.

“In this era, we have very many challenges. How can we fight poverty when all we do is blaming the government for not helping us?” Mr Mayiga asked.

He also challenged those telling him to stop mobilising resources for the development of the kingdom projects to stop eating food.

For instance, Mr Mayiga said Buganda still needs to build a kingdom hospital, a perimeter wall on the Kabaka’s lake and refurbish the Mengo palace, among other developments.

“We will not get tired. We shall continue to hustle. How can we (doing a good cause) stop if those who steal government resources have not stopped and have no peace at all as they keep moving from one place to the other?” he asked.

The Buganda premier vowed to ensure accountability for all the funds collected in his drive.

“We don’t want transparency to be just talked about but we want it to be demonstrated by what we do. We have for long been used to getting frustrated and annoyed and do nothing on Buganda’s issues. Nothing will stop Buganda to get back to the top if we are transparent,” Mr Mayiga said.

The Katikkiro cited a team he tasked to go to China to purchase materials needed to finish Masengere Plaza who he said had accounted for every shilling given to them.

“It is worth applauding that in today’s Uganda, you give someone more thab Shs500 million without an agreement and they deliver but also account for even the soda they took.”

The Katikkiro oversaw the raising of the first truss on the Masengere which he said will be completed by the end of this year.

Meanwhile, Kabaka Mutebi will open the Lukiiko today.
