Kampala. The Katikkiro of Buganda, Mr Charles Peter Mayiga, on Monday declined to comment on a denigrating attack the head of Daawa of the Kibuli Muslim sect, Sheikh Nooh Muzaata, made on the kingdom’s fundraising campaign popularly known as “ettoffaali.”
Sheikh Muzaata’s invectives are contained in an audio that has gone viral on social media since last week. In the recording, the sheikh rebukes Muslims for contributing money to Buganda’s development campaign when their mosques are in a despicable state.
Buganda loyalists who participated in the fundraising drive in Kampala central business district yesterday carried placards and chanted anti-Muzaata slogans. They prompted the Katikkiro to comment on what they termed as Sheikh Muzaata’s attack on Buganda kingdom but the senior monarchy official declined.

“I was in Kawempe last week and the Sheikhs promised to address those issues. Let me keep quiet for the time being,” Mr Mayiga responded briskly to the chanting crowd.
The Katikkiro further emphasised the need for collective saving among traders in the city to enable them grow their businesses, citing the example of the Kikuyu in Kenya who established Equity Bank.
“Buganda can learn a lot from the Kikuyu, they learnt to come together and helping one another. That is why they are rich and have established strong businesses. Buganda cannot develop without strong companies to provide employment to its subjects,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kampala city leaders led by Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and Central Division chairman Godfrey Nyakana promised more support to Buganda’s development projects.
“Kampala is part of Buganda and we must support programmes brought by the kingdom. It is our responsibility and we should not abandon it,” Mr Nyakana noted.
