Mbabazi hails China friendship

Mr Mbabazi believes China will assist Uganda achieve its agenda.

KANUNGU- Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi has said the Uganda – China relationship is a positive contribution to the country’s economy that has in the last two decades experienced growth and stability.

“China is a great contributor to our economic stability. We hope the support will help us achieve our agenda of becoming a middle class economy by 2040,” he said.

The Prime Minister was speaking during a tour of the China-Uganda Friendship Nyakinoni Secondary School Kinkizi West, Kanungu District.

The Chinese delegation was led by Amb Zhao Yali.
Mr Mbabazi said: “China’s friendship is a demonstrated example of strategic partnership.”
Nyakinoni Secondary School was in 2009 one of the six rural schools chosen by the Chinese government to receive support under President Hu Jintao.

Under the programme, the school received funding to build six classroom blocks, an administration block, furnished science and ICT laboratories and recreational facilities.

Ms Jacqueline Mbabazi, the NRM Women League national chairperson and a senior presidential adviser on General Duties, said through her office China had given Ugandans a number of scholarships with a number of them yet to be given out.

Mr Nelson Bemanya, the school’s chairman, said key challenges including inadequate staff and students’ accommodation are some of the issues that need immediate attention.
