Kampala.

Former prime minister Amama Mbabazi has set up campaign offices for his 2016 presidential bid.

His campaign headquarters on Plot 29 Nakasero Road in Kampala looked deserted on the outside when Saturday Monitor passed by yesterday, but insiders in Mbabazi’s camp said the branding and installation work in the interior was complete.
Mr Mbabazi, a former NRM secretary general, was due to hold his maiden media briefing at his campaign headquarters yesterday but the programme was cancelled within hours of sending out invitations to journalists for the briefing dubbed “Ask Amama”.

Sources in Mr Mbabazi’s camp said he is likely to address the press on Monday when the campaign headquarters will also be unveiled officially.

Ms Josephine Mayanja-Nkangi, a spokesperson of Mr Mbabazi’s camp, did not confirm or deny the establishment of the campaign headquarters.

“The right honourable is a lawyer and also an MP, so what makes you think that he will use that address as his campaign headquarters?” she asked.
Sources in Mr Mbabazi camp said he will soon intensify his hunt for votes.

He released a programme for consulting meetings with voters in different districts beginning in Mbale District on July 9.
Mr Mbabazi has not addressed a single gathering since he announced on June 15 that he will stand for president in 2016.

Mr Mbabazi, who is also the Kinkizi West Member of Parliament, travelled to different countries after making the long-awaited announcement of his bid and during his itinerary he gave interviews to the BBC and Voice of America, attracting criticism from a presidential spokesperson that he was shunning local press in favour of international media.
