Mbabazi takes leave as NRM secretary general

Sacked Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi has accepted to take leave of the office of the NRM secretary general following a two day meeting by members of the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) at statehouse Nakasero.
In the meeting that took place on Thursday and Saturday, and chaired by President Yoweri Museveni, members reportedly asked Mr Mbabazi to take leave as secretary general as the party prepares for the delegates conference.
CEC members reportedly asked the deputy secretary general Dorothy Hyuha, who doubles as Uganda’s ambassador to Tanzania to act as the secretary general when Mbabazi is on leave.

In a letter addressed to President Museveni and seen by this newspaper, Mr Mbabazi who was last month dropped as prime minister said he would take leave from October 20 to December 31, 2014.
“As you are aware, I have been performing the duties of Secretary General of NRM without a break for the last nine years. I wish now to take leave of absence from duty from October 20, 2014 until December 31, 2014. During my leave, the Deputy Secretary General, Hon. Dorothy Hyuha will perform the duties of Secretary General,” read part of the letter written to President Museveni as the NRM National Chairperson.
The letter dated October 20, 2014 was also copied to First National Vice Chairman, second National Vice Chairperson, all vice chairpersons in charge of Regions, deputy secretary general, all members of CEC, director, Administration and Finance.
