At least two people have died in suspected measles outbreak in Hoima District. The first victim is said to have died on New Year’s Eve. Medical officials say the deceased are Night Petralina, 35, a resident of Nyanseke Village, Kaseeta Parish in Kabwooya Sub-county and Wera Doroka, 8, a resident of Nyairongo Village in Kabwooya Sub-county.
The district health inspector, Mr Fredrick Byenume, said the two developed red eyes, general body skin rash, cough, diahorea, vomiting and a running nose.
Mr Byenume said 10 other patients, suspected to have contracted the disease, were discharged from Kaseeta Health Centre III after their condition improved.
“We registered seven new suspected cases and patients are currently admitted to Kaseeta Health Centre III with similar (measles) signs and symptoms,” Mr Byenume said.
He said disease surveillance reports indicate that there could be more cases in Kanyegaramire Village in Kabwooya Sub-county and Kidoma Village in Kiziranfumbi Sub-county.
“We are continuing to trace patients with symptoms and give them timely medication. Fortunately those who have come to the centre have registered improvements,” Mr Byenume said.
