Minister Elioda wins NRM primaries in Sheema municipality

Sheema north Member of Parliament Dr Elioda Tumwesigye who doubles as Science and Technology minister has been declared as the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for Sheema municipality MP seat in the coming elections.
He defeated seven other candidates after getting 9,371 votes out of 25,897 votes cast, followed by Raymond Akankwatsa with 4,596 votes.
Mr Jonas Tumwine got 2,986, followed by Joseph Mwebesa who garnered 2,926 votes.

Katate Polly Nkwasiibwe got 2055, David Kamukama got 1581, followed Jonathan Bongonzya who polled 1,257 while Geoffrey Mucunguzi trailed with 720 votes.
While declaring the results at Sheema central division headquarters in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, the chairman NRM electoral commission, Mr Tanga Odoi asked Dr Elioda who is the district Chairman for NRM party to reconcile with his challengers and avoid divisions if the party is to win the seat.

‘’People have deep hatred for one another here. I saw it in the meeting we had on Sunday. The candidates were so much touched by the coming of Dr Elioda because he had promised when we met in stakeholders meeting that he would not come in the race but he reconsidered his position and that is what human beings are; they change positions. I want to request Dr Elioda to do his best and win over those other candidates because they have voters. We shall not benefit if he stands aloof and thinks he has won after the election,’’ Mr Odoi said.

Meanwhile, Mr Odoi declared Mr Abel Atucungwire Kahara as the NRM flag bearer for Sheema Municipality Mayor seat after beating other two contestants with 12,691 votes out of 26,055 votes cast. He was followed by Mubangizi Yese Kamanyire who got 6,955 votes and Peter Kabagambe with 5601 votes.

Elsewhere in Apac, former Minister Akaki Ayum Jovino polled 3,036 (60.9%) votes and was declared winner by EC's Jane Alisemera as the MP flag bearer. He defeated Ochono Patrick Okello who got 1,827 votes.
