Luweero- State minister for Higher Education John Chrysostom Muyingo has urged able residents and students to come to the aid of the elderly and less privileged people in society.

“Bamunanika County should be a model constituency where residents take responsibility for the elderly and less privileged groups. We need to train our children to be caring by urging them to be part of the charity programmes in our constituency,” Dr Muyingo told Ssekamuli parish residents at the launch of Muyingo Charitable Foundation in Luweero District early this week.

Secondary school students in some schools donated part of their pocket money to contribute items to the elderly persons in the area through the charity foundation. Some of the donated items include blankets, food items, among other basics. “We should be able to expand this charity to cover areas outside Luweero District,” Dr Muyingo, who is also the Bamunanika County MP, said.

The minister also advised the elderly persons not to miss out on the government Operation Wealth Creation programme where agriculture inputs and planting material are extended to farmers’ groups and individuals.

Funds from the charity, according to Dr Muyingo, will go to the elderly persons, the constituency bursary scheme and other projects in Bamunanika County.
