KAMPALA. Ben Immanuel Misagga has stepped down as president of record 16 time league champions SC Villa.
Misagga who was seeking another four year term made the announcement at a fans meeting he called at Villa Park on Sunday morning.
“I organized elections and they were stopped because of a mere petition. They thought I was going to fight but I have decided to move on,” Misagga, donning boots and denim jeans and a dark blue t-shirt akin to the French football team, said amid tight security.

With chants for and mostly against him in the background Misagga accused the federation of meddling in the club’s affairs.
“I came to unite the club but there are people who have ensured that does not happen. It seems this club has other owners so I leave it to them,” he added.
His critics point to dictatorial tendencies including changing the club’s constitution that gave him absolute powers over the club general assembly and not calling the annual congress.

In an unprecedented move, the federation asked the club to postpone the their elections a fortnight ago citing poor governance at the club.
“In order to ensure good governance, protect the interests of Sports Club Villa and return to normalcy, FUFA hereby requires the following;
A comprehensive review, approval and/or ratification by Fufa of the statutes of the member before elections of the bodies of the said member may proceed to be organized.”
“That the process of review, approval and/or ratification of the Statutes by Fufa and election of the bodies of the member are completed by 31st December 2018,” read in part a communication issued by Fufa CEO Edgar Watson.

He was elected four years ago after an interim committee was instituted after former chairman Fred Muwema was thrown out at the club.
Four other people had previously expressed interest in the top villa post including Edgar Agaba, former club striker Gibby Kalule Muhammad Bazirengedde and Dennis Mbidde’ Misagga’s former vice president.
They however stayed away from the electoral process initiated by Misagga citing unfair ground.
