Missing 16-year-old girl found dead

Grief engulfed residents of Pallisa Town Council in Pallisa District on New Year’s day after a lifeless body of a 16-year-old-girl, who had disappeared from their home last Friday, was discovered in the bush.
The body of Getrude Akello, a daughter of Mr Emmanuel Omio a resident of Kaucho A village, Kaucho parish, Pallisa town was discovered by residents about three kilometres from her home.

The Bukedi region police spokesperson, Mr Sowali Kamulya, confirmed the incident and said one suspect has been arrested in connection with the killing.
“We got a call from area residents about the recovery of the missing girl. As police we rushed at the scene and we found the girl’s decomposing body dumped in the bush,” said Mr Kamulya, adding that the parents of the deceased had earlier reported Akello’s disappearance.

He identified the suspect who was arrested by the help of a police dog as Dan Ochan, a resident of Kalaki village in Pallisa Town Council.
Mr Kamulya said the scene of crime was visited by detectives to collect evidence related in the case. He said police is carrying out investigations as they hunt for others reportedly involved in the killing.
Police said the body of the deceased was taken to Pallisa District hospital morgue for postmortem. According to Police doctor’s report, it indicated that the cause of her death was strangulation.
The deceased's father, Mr Omio, said he wants police to speed up the investigations and bring the culprits to book.
