Kampala- You could get yourself jailed for unspecified period of time if you are caught misusing the recently distributed mosquito nets.

And if you are thinking of making a makeshift bathroom using that net, or turning it into fishing net, think twice because the Public Health Act which the President has invoked could be used against you.

The President while launching the final phase of mosquito net distribution in Kampala at the weekend, warned that any person, who will be caught, should be accused of sabotaging government programmes – in this case eliminating malaria.

“We will put mechanisms to inspect homes to ensure that these nets are being properly used. The mosquito nets are an effective way of preventing malaria but if we give you free nets and you don’t use them, you should be jailed,” he said.

The distribution exercise was the last phase since it was first launched last May.

The Minister of Health, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, said malaria illnesses and deaths are projected to drop by a substantial figure in the next three years.
