A policeman attached to Nyamweru Sub-county, Kabale District, Fred Walimbwa, has been killed by a mob protesting a resident’s arrest.

The Kabale Chief Magistrates’ Court had issued a warrant of arrest for Paulson Nuwagaba who was accused of child neglect.

The police spokesman for Kigezi sub-region Mr Elly Maate, said the incident happened at Mbambwe village on Saturday.

He said the deceased was trapped by a mob after another officer Mr Augustine Mulindangabo took off after he had sensed danger.

“On Saturday, the deceased booked-out of office together with a colleague to enforce a court order where a suspect had been charged with child neglect.”

However, after arresting the suspect, his relatives mobilised residents against the officers, who attacked them in a bid to prevent them from arresting the suspect.

According to police, the two officers fired in the air injuring Ivan Ayebare in the process. This angered the mob, which attacked the officers with clubs and pangas beating the officer to death.
