Monitor Publications Limited, NTV Uganda and The East African are set to consolidate departments and operations in what managers have termed as transforming for a stronger future.
In his speech during a meeting with the staff at Daily Monitor head office at Namuwongo in Kampala, the Nation Media Group-Uganda managing director, Mr Tony Glencross said the operations to be consolidated include marketing, digital, human resource management and several sections of news reporting like sports, business, among others.
“Over the recent past, we embarked on a strategic journey of transforming our operations into a modern 21st Century digital company. We have made critical strides such as converging our newsroom, launched new innovative products, developed new revenue streams while ensuring we secure our current print and broadcasting businesses,” Mr Glencross said in a meeting attended by the Nairobi based Nation Media Group human resource boss, Mr David Kiambi.
He added: “As a result some of the team members will have to leave the company. But they will be treated with respect and compassion as we do the restructuring. Monitor will outsource, some of our services to NTV, and vice versa. And each will pay for those services,” Mr Glencross said.
On Thursday, Nation Media Group to which MPL belongs announced a transformation of the media house into a modern 21st century digital content company.
“This will entail a wide group reorganization and a reduction of workers,” read part of the statement by the group’s head of corporate and regulatory affairs, Clifford Machoka.
