KAMPALA. Monitor Publications Limited, in partnership with Housing Finance Bank and Nile Breweries Ltd, yesterday held a blood donation drive at City Square in Kampala in a bid to counter the blood shortage in the country.

The drive was held under the theme ‘The most precious gift you can give someone is you’.
Mr Thomas Kamphuis, the country director Nile Breweries Limited, said the blood donation drive, besides bringing people together, was in response to the shortage of blood in the country.

“This is an effort to save lives. Every unit of blood donated counts because you never know when you need blood. It is something one can do as a lunch hour activity,” Mr Kamphuis said.

Donation culture
Mr Mathias Katamba, the managing director Housing Finance Bank, added that the event was also intended to instill the culture of donating blood among Ugandans,
“We, therefore, need to develop a culture of donating blood and not only wait to donate when there is a shortage,” Mr Katamba said.

He urged Ugandans to support the drive so as to curb a national blood crisis.
“Many of us will need blood at some point in life and since the blood is supposed to be free, we want to reach out to as many people as possible so that we can have as much blood as we can in order to save lives.”
