Serere. The National Semi-Arid Resources Research Institute (NaSARRI) in Serere, eastern Uganda, is going to be a beehive of activity this morning as the eighth Monitor Farm Clinic addresses the existing farming challenges at length.

The free of charge exhibition, thanks to sponsors: Heifer International, Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Industry and Fisheries, NTV and NaSARRI, is basically going to address the requirements of getting high quality farm produce in semi-arid environment.

According to Ms Elizabeth Namaganda, the Monitor Publications brand manager, the participants have a glorious opportunity to learn smart climate farming techniques and also create a network for farmers and share experiences.

“After the hands-on training, we shall also give all the participants free farming notes and a chance to ask the NaSARRI experts questions” Namaganda said.

The farmers are going to be enlightened on how to deal with semi-arid enterprises such as cotton, citrus, sorghum, peas, sunflower, ground nuts and cassava, beef and dairy with hopes of generating more money and satisfying the ready market.

The participants stand a chance of attending at least four of the nine enterprises while there will be exhibitions from more than 10 agribusiness companies plus a farm management lecture to all in regards to handling the business side of farming enterprises.

Ms Namaganda expects this finals clinic to be well attended by participants from all walks of life as the previous well attended Western, Central, Symposium farm clinics held this year.

The seventh Monitor Farm Clinic at Makerere University Agricultural Research Institute Kabanyoro, in July was attended by more than 700 participants, including government dignitaries and left farmers well versed with valuable knowledge in passion fruit, banana, dairy and piggery enterprise.

The day’s itinerary includes breakfast before the first session, partipants heading to various sections for lectures, lunch, more lectures and question and answer session.
