More suspects arrested in girls kidnap, murder

KAMPALA. The police and Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence have arrested a witchdoctor and another suspect in the kidnap and murder of Brinah Nalule, a student of YMCA Buwambo campus, and 17-year-old Rose Nakisekka, whose body was dumped in Nalumunye, both in Wakiso District.
Nakisekka was kidnapped on May 10 and her body was discovered in Nalumunye on Monday after the alleged kidnapper led police to where it was dropped.

The deceased’s father, Mr Fred Kasaga, said the kidnappers demanded Shs10m but reduced the price to Shs5m and finally to Shs1m.
He said after sending the money, the kidnappers called him to say they had changed their mind and killed Nakisekka. They demanded another Shs500,000 for buying plastic bags for keeping her dead body.
“At this point, I informed the police who, using their own systems, tracked the suspect and arrested him,” Mr Kasaga said.

A police source who declined to be named, said the suspect pinned a witchdoctor identified as Ddumba Ali, a resident of Namasuba as the sponsor of the kidnap.
The suspects were arrested in Kikajjo zone in Namasuba and Salaama, both in Makindye Division.
“There are others who are still at large, but we shall get them,” said police spokesman Emilian Kayima.

The suspect reportedly said the witchdoctor asked him and others, still at large, to supply him with private parts and other body organs of a woman.
Police raided the home of Ddumba in Kikajo zone on Monday and arrested him. Yesterday, police searched his home again.

Nakisekka’s parents were invited to Mulago to identify the body but upon reaching the hospital yesterday, doctors told them it had been mutilated beyond recognition and advised them to wait for a DNA test.
However Kalungu District Woman MP Aisha Sekindi said the father later identified the body and it was handed over to him for burial.

Security sources said one of the suspects confessed that he was also involved in the kidnap and murder of Nalule, the student of YMCA Buwambo campus.
Nalule was kidnapped at Old Taxi Park at around 7pm on May 6 as she headed to board a taxi back to her hostel after spending two days at the home of a pastor, Ronald Wambazi, in Namwezzi, Mbikko Town Council in Buikwe District.
The kidnappers demanded a Shs10m ransom but her parents could not raise the money. Her body was recovered in Kibaawo Zone in Mutundwe, Lubaga Division.

It was mutilated and the tongue and private parts had been cut off.
A senior police source yesterday said the suspect had been captured on CCTV standing at Old Taxi Park as he negotiated the ransom with Nalule’s parents.
The source said Pastor Wambazi revealed the identity of Nalule’s kidnappers. The source said Wambazi added that the intention of the kidnap was to extract a ransom from the deceased’s parents but the mission later turned into murder.
The source quoted Wambazi as saying he contacted his friend, a taxi driver, to procure a person who could kidnap Nalule.

“My intention was to get money and I did not know that the people I had hired could kill her,” the source quoted Wambazi as telling security operatives.
Nalule’s father yesterday confirmed that days before the kidnap, Wambazi had sent an emissary to tell them that he intended to marry their daughter, but they flatly rejected his move.
The security source said upon Wambazi’s revelations, CMI arrested Ali Ddumba whom he had allegedly contacted to procure the kidnappers.

During the interrogation, the taxi driver reportedly revealed his accomplices, one of them identified as Ibrahim Ssekisambwe, the man who was allegedly captured on CCTV negotiating for a ransom.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire could not confirm or deny the arrest of two more suspects but insisted “investigators have made meaningful success in Nalule’s murder.”
