Moroto police boss faces arrest for attacking journalists

The District Police Commander for Moroto, George Obia faces arrest if he does not present himself before the courts in Moroto to answer charges of malicious damage and common assault.

Mr Yona Kule, the Mt Moroto Regional Crime Intelligence Officer told Daily Monitor that he has summoned Mr Obia and intends to order for his arrest should he not show up.

"If he does not appear on Monday, I will go and pick him by myself and handover to court because I have the file with me," he said.
Mr Obia who is currently undergoing training in the senior police college in Bwebajja, Kampala on January 9, this year, attacked NTV journalists who were covering the former Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate, Dr Kizza Besigye, in Moroto ahead of the February 2016 elections.

Mr Obia barred Journalists from filming the blockade arguing that it was military equipment which they could not film without permission.

"Who has given you permission to document our military base. Bring all those cameras here and if not am going to destroy everything, “he said before kicking the NTV camera.
Obia also tore a T-shirt of one of the journalists.
