3 die in motor accident, scores injured

At least three people on Friday died on spot and scores critically injured in a road accident at Opuyo trading centre along Soroti- Mbale.
The accident happened at around 1:30pm, 3kms from Soroti town.
An Isuzu registration number UAR 245J reportedly swerved off the road and rammed into a nearby building killing three of its passengers instantly.
The deceased persons and the injured were among the majority of the jubilant passengers traveling to attend a marriage ceremony in Gweri Sub County in Soroti district.
East Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, Juma Hassan Nyene identified the deceased persons as Grace Atero 40, Adella Okello 3 and one Apio, 34 all residents of Morungatuny in Amuria district.
“This vehicle was loaded with people who were going for a marriage ceremony in Otidong village, Awoja parish in Soroti district” Nyene said.
According to Nyene, the driver whose identity is still unknown since he is on the run was allegedly over speeding when the brakes failed.
The fatal accident attracted Soroti district leaders to the scene including RDC, John Stephen Ekoom and Soroti LC5 chairperson George Michael Egunyu who later mobilized vehicles that carried accident victims to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital.
