Woman on the run over death of her husband

What you need to know:

  • This comes weeks after a wife and her children were arrested over the killing of former Monitor Publications Ltd sales executive Abel Katende.
  • The wife is reportedly on the run and is wanted for murder.

Police in Mpigi District are investigating a case in which a prominent businessman in the area was allegedly murdered by his wife and daughter on Tuesday night.
The 20-year-old daughter allegedly connived with her 40-year-old mother to kill Leonard Bazirengedde, 60, because he married another woman and bought a piece of land for her.

Ms Rose Natukunda, the officer in charge of criminal investigations in Mpigi District said the deceased was a resident of Mpambire Village in Mpigi Town Council.
“Immediately after receiving the sad news, police went quickly to the deceased’s home and arrested the daughter but the wife fled and we want her dead or alive because she is our prime suspect,” she said on Wednesday.

Ms Natukunda added that the deceased’s daughter is currently detained at Mpigi Central Police Station and will be charged with murder once police investigations are complete.
