Police in Mpigi District are investigating a case in which a prominent businessman in the area was allegedly murdered by his wife and daughter on Tuesday night.
The 20-year-old daughter allegedly connived with her 40-year-old mother to kill Leonard Bazirengedde, 60, because he married another woman and bought a piece of land for her.
Ms Rose Natukunda, the officer in charge of criminal investigations in Mpigi District said the deceased was a resident of Mpambire Village in Mpigi Town Council.
“Immediately after receiving the sad news, police went quickly to the deceased’s home and arrested the daughter but the wife fled and we want her dead or alive because she is our prime suspect,” she said on Wednesday.
Ms Natukunda added that the deceased’s daughter is currently detained at Mpigi Central Police Station and will be charged with murder once police investigations are complete.
“Our preliminary investigations indicate that Bazirengedde, was killed after being hit with two heavy stones and we have them as exhibits (stones with blood stains) to help us in further investigations,” she said.
Mr Ben Ssozi, the area councillor told this reporter that they received information from the neighbours that the deceased first engaged in a quarrel with the wife before he was killed.

Bazirengedde’s body was taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
“As we are waiting for the postmortem report from Mulago, we are continuing to interrogate the suspect, gather information from friends and the deceased’s neighbours and we shall get detailed the information about the matter before taking them to court,” Ms Natukunda added.
The incident comes weeks after a wife and her children were arrested over the killing of former Monitor Publications Ltd sales executive Abel Katende.
Katende’s decomposing body, which was chopped into pieces and bundled into a sack, was retrieved from a toilet in Luteete A zone, Kasangati Town Council, in Wakiso District on May 6.
