Mpigi councillors name road after Kirumira

The late Muhammad Kirumira

MPIGI- Mpigi Town Council in Mpigi district has unanimously resolved to name a road after the late Muhammad Kirumira, the former Buyende District Police commander, to appreciate his contribution to the country.

During a Thursday council meeting, Mr Richard Ssenoga, the Mpigi town mayor proposed a motion to name the 2.5 kilometre Mpambire - Mpanga Road after the police officer who was assassinated on September 8.

"The motion was seconded by Mr Charles Kaggwa, the Mpambire Ward councillor.

“ The decision was supported by all of us [councillors]. His good deeds represented the community of Mpigi at the national level. He paid school fees for children, he built mosques, churches and contributed to the building of a disciplined police force. May his soul rest in paradise," Mr Ben Ssozi, the Mpigi Town Council councillor told this reporter.

The council also resolved to buy a plot of land on the Kampala-Masaka highway where a monument will be constructed in honour of Kirumira.

The council named a committee that will oversee the project. The 5-member committee will be headed by Mr Ssozi.

Kirumira and a female friend, Resty Nalinya, were shot dead in Bulenga, Wakiso District.
