Mufti Mubajje condemns flogging of demonstrators

Uganda’s Supreme Mufti Sheikh Ramadhan Mubajje has condemned security forces for killing and whipping people during elections and demonstrations.
Mufti Mubajje who led the Eid Al-Adha sermon at Old Kampala Mosque said it was unprofessional to beat up people who even seemed to have surrendered.
"Someone has put his hands up, as a sign of surrendering or innocence, but you go on and beat him or her up? That is not good at all. Such people are the reason why regimes become hated," Mufti Mubajje said.
He called for respect for one another irrespective of religious and political affiliation.

Mufti Mubajje’s remarks comes on the heels of Monday’s demonstrations against the detention of Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.
Demonstrations started at around 10am in Kisekka Market and spread to Kampala Road, Namirembe Road, Nakivubo Mews, Ben Kiwanuka Street and Katwe where a combined force of Special Forces Command (SFC), Military Police and Field Force Police (FFP) swung into action and dispersed protesters using teargas, canes, batons and live bullets.
Crowds shouted release ‘Bobi Wine’ and chanted his trade mark slogans; ‘People Power, Our People and Time is now’.
Security forces unleashed brutality on people gathered on verandahs by clobbering them with sticks, kicks, slapping and pinching them with scissors.
