Fire destroys Mukono Satellite Beach rooftop

The rooftop that was destroyed

Mukono
Business came to a standstill in Mukono town after the rooftop of Satellite Beach was gutted by fire on Tuesday afternoon.
This put businesspeople on tension around the area as they feared for the destruction of their property.

According to Satellite manager Edison Baguma, the fire was caused by a fleck of fire from the garbage which was blown into the grass thatched roof.

“There is a rubbish-pit where we burn all the rubbish coming from the Satellite building and this time, because of much wind and the sunshine, a fleck of fire was blown into the grass thatched roof therefore spreading and causing the fire,” Baguma said.

Incurred loss

Baguma added that the whole loss including the damaged roof is estimated at Shs5 million.

Some of the businessmen said the fire was caused by poor connection of electric wires.

The Mukono OC Fire, Conrad Byomugabe confirmed that the fire was caused by a fleck of fire coming from the rubbish pit below the premises.

He also said that Mukono fire rescue vehicle had very little water in it so they had to call for help from the Kampala fire department as well as that of Lugazi therefore managing to stop the fire before it could spread very far.

However, by the time the fire was put out, the rooftop had been consumed by the fire.
