Mukono pushes for government hospital

MUKONO. Mukono District leaders have started lobbying government to elevate the area health centre IV to hospital status to save patients from travelling to Mulago National Referral Hospital located 20 kilometres away.
Mukono North MP who also doubles at State minister for Water, Ronald Kibuule, said the district has only a health centre IV and sub-county health centre IIIs which cannot handle complicated illnesses.
“We ask government to elevate Mukono Health Centre IV to a hospital status. This is something we are pushing for and I think my colleagues in the Health ministry will support it,” the minister said.

He was speaking during the national Safe Motherhood Day celebrations at Kisowera Primary School, Nama Sub-county on Monday.
The minister said the health centre has enough land for expansion. Nakifuma County MP Ssekitoleko Kafeero said the continued lack of a government hospital has hampered service delivery in the district.
When contacted, Mukono District health officer Dr Elly Tumushabe said they had already communicated to the Health ministry about the issue.
