ADF Chief Ideologue Jamil Mukulu has been extradited to Uganda from Tanzania where he will likely face charges relating to terrorism and murder.
According to highly placed sources, Mukulu left TZ on Friday afternoon on a chartered plane alongside the counterterrorism police boss John Ndugutse and arrived at Entebbe international Airport at around 6pm.
He was escorted by Ugandan security officers to a yet to be disclosed destination.
The extradition ends a protracted legal battle in Tanzania where Mukulu tried to contest his transfer and trial in Uganda.
The ADF rebel leader’s extradition follows an order by a Tanzanian court to have him tried in Uganda where he is wanted on several murder charges.
Mukulu had early last month told Kisutu Resident Magistrates Court that he did not believe he could be treated fairly by the Kampala court due to ideological differences he had with the Kampala government.
However, Magistrate Cyprian Mkeha ruled on June 25 that he was satisfied that the charges against the rebel leader were not political, paving way for his imminent return to Uganda.
The magistrate also said there is sufficient evidence to establish prima-facie murder charge against him.

After the ruling, Mukulu said he was not satisfied with the ruling and told the court he would appeal.
Mr Mkeha ordered Mukulu to remain on remand, as he awaits to proceed with the appeal process in the Tanzania Hight Court.
On May 22, the government of Uganda through its Attorney General Freddie Ruhindi, submitted the application for Mukulu’s extradition, saying the latter is wanted in the country to answer several criminal charges, including murder.
Mukulu is accused of commanding a spate of brutal attacks against civilians in both Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo since the late 1990s.
