Museveni now targets my family, says Sejusa

Gen Sejusa

Kampala- The former coordinator of security agencies, Gen David Sejusa, yesterday denied any connection with the alleged transfer of $8m (about Shs20b) from Ugandan to London through a forex bureau in Bugolobi that was closed by the government.

Gen Sejusa instead accuses the government of trying “to lay ground to harass, disorganise
and harm my family and their livelihood. This will not be the first time….”

“… as the story develops the people of Uganda will get to know the game plan of Museveni and his gang. They will learn that this is a trick long played by Museveni to get to his political opponents, their families and businesses,” Gen Sejusa added in yesterday’s letter to his lawyer, Mr Joseph Luzige, which this paper has obtained.

Mr Luzige acknowledged receiving the letter, saying “my client has directed me to look at the distortions being played by government”.

Pakasa Forex Bureau was closed over suspicion that it facilitated the transfer of the huge amount of money to renegade Gen Sejusa who is holed up in London.

“First of all, I don’t know of any close relative who runs a Forex bureau. Who indeed would have access to US dollars 8m? That type of money is of course is peanuts to the Museveni family. That’s why in their eyes, it’s a credible spin. But like all lies, this is not hard to expose. In any case, this should not be difficult to establish its source, transit route through bank of Uganda, etc,” he said.

The latest Gen Sejusa’s letter also claims that former Army Commander, Maj Gen James Kazini before he died had been under investigation that he was transferring money to South Sudan to topple the Ugandan government.
“Actually Museveni did the same with Maj Gen James Kazini when he accused him that he was sending money to elements in Southern Sudan (SPLA) and West Nile veterans to topple him,” the letter reads.

This brings new side in the controversial death of the former army commander, who is said to have been killed by his mistress, Lydia Draru, who was sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Gen Kazini was found dead at Draru’s house in Namuwongo, a Kampala suburb, in November 2010 with deep wounds on the head.

Gen Sejusa alleges that private investigators that had come from Kenya to investigate the death of Gen Kazini were intimidated and fled the country at night.

“The Kenyan team of private investigators which had been hired by the family was attacked and it left the country at night. And the family was threatened and their businesses targeted,” the letter claims.

Claims
Gen Sejusa left the country in April after authoring a letter, alleging that there was a scheme to assassinate senior government and military officials perceived to be against an alleged scheme to have Brig Muhoozi Kainerugaba replace his father as President.

When contacted, President Museveni’s spokesman Tamale Mirundi said the government has no intentions of harassing Gen Sejusa’s family.

“If government closes business, they must be involved in criminal or suspicious activities. It is not the policy of Museveni to witch-hunt political enemies,” Mr Mirundi added last evening.

“How many times has the government closed Dr [Kizza] Besigye’s businesses even when he has disappeared to South Africa? His [Besigye] fuel stations have never been closed.”

The General’s comments

Gen David Sejusa. “For now your game plan is clear. It’s stupid because it’s reckless. But watch out. I can assure you your every move is being watched. I don’t steal like you. The British government knows my situation. They are not a corrupt banana republic like ours which you have destroyed through your corruption. They would not allow US8 million to be smuggled at the airport. It’s a foolish lie.

Let’s know the name of other relative who left the country with that stash of money and back, that who could carry such huge amounts of money undetected.

The reason for this story is to try and make me look as dirty as that club of looters. Unfortunately for you, it can’t hold now. It’s too late. I know you are trying to destroy the little I earned at home. Just like you did in 1996, 1997 and 1999. If you do, God will reward me 10 fold or more. He always did and will! But everything has its time. So you can go ahead and please yourself Mr President.

Lastly a word of caution to those being used [by the government], when the country sinks, you too will be chief guest at the sinking party. So we need to be mindful of what all this portends to our country.”
