Prince Gabula was this week endorsed as the new Kyabazinga of Busoga.

JINJA- President Museveni has congratulated Prince William Gabula IV upon his election as the Kyabazinga (King) of Busoga.

Prince Gabula was elected by 10 out of the 11 hereditary chiefs that make up the Busoga Royal Chiefs Council.

He was also endorsed on Monday by the Busoga Lukiiko (parliament), the kingdom’s highest decision making body.

Sources close to Prince Gabula told Daily Monitor yesterday that Mr Museveni had reached the prince on phone on Wednesday to congratulate him and scheduled a meeting this weekend.

Presidential spokesperson, Tamale Mirundi confirmed the communication, but hastened to describe it as normal, saying: “I have been talking about this since yesterday (Wednesday), but I think it is normal for a President to congratulate anybody upon his election so you could have confirmed this with the Kyabazinga or his information minister,” he said.

Prince Gabula confirmed the telephone discussion, but declined to go into details.

“Yes the President called me on Wednesday and congratulated me. We hope to have a meeting with him over the weekend,” he said.

In a related development, Kamuli District chairperson, Salaamu Musumba has described the election of Prince Gabula as the best opportunity that Busoga has ever had to make for a fresh start.

“We have a Kyabazinga who comes without excessive baggage. He is not tainted like some of us who have been in politics and he is yet to commit mistakes unless it is we who are going to make him commit them,” she said.
