President Museveni joined the opposition leaders yesterday to congratulate President-elect, Kenyatta Uhuru.

A copy of the President’s message sent out the Press yesterday said: “I am writing to congratulate you on the historic victory you achieved by winning the tightly contested Presidential election in Kenya. Ugandans and the NRM congratulate you.

“We look forward to consolidating the brotherly relations between our two countries within the wider East African and the Great Lakes region,” the President added. “We also congratulate the people of Kenya on holding such peaceful elections. Their conduct has redeemed the honour of Kenya and Africa.”

Mr Olara Otunnu, the president of Uganda Peoples Congress, said: “I congratulate the people of Kenya and the President-elect on the remarkable exercise that was free and fair.” “Mr Kenyatta should now know that he has a huge task to unite the people of Kenya,” he added.

The Forum for Democratic Change President, Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu, also added his voice to the growing list of leaders congratulating Kenyans upon the peaceful elections. He said: “We wish the Kenyans all the best and congratulate them for going through the election peacefully and hope that the same calmness continues because this is the right thing to do.”

The Leader of Opposition in Parlliament, Mr Nandala Mafabi, said Mr Kenyatta “is a good man and we shall work with him.” He also called on Kenyans to keep calm, especially supporters of the other seven candidates in the race.
