Museveni regrets giving residents district

BUKOMANSIMBI- President Museveni has regretted granting Bukomansimbi a district status because its residents voted for Opposition leaders in the 2011 general elections.

Addressing residents at Kitaasa Parish Church on Tuesday, Mr Museveni said he was uncomfortable with the political leaders who had been elected.

The President was in the district to commission the construction of the Shs239 billion road from Kanoni to Kalungu District.

“You make me regret why I accented to Bukomansimbi becoming a district. The MP you voted does not know where I live nor do I know where he lives. You made the same mistake when it came to electing the Woman MP,” he said.

Bukomansimbi was carved out of Masaka District in 2009. Democratic Party’s Deo Kiyingi was elected area MP and Ms Suzan Namaganda as the District Woman MP while Mr Muhammad Kateregga (Jeema) as the LC5 chairperson.

“You are now crying for roads and electricity when you don’t know how to tap resources. You want me to do the work which would have been done by your MPs... Who should weep with you when you decided to vote wrong people?” Mr Museveni asked.

However, Mr Kateregga said the President was politically biased, adding that the district had never registered any delays in the release of funds despite political differences with the President.

“We have so far got Shs39b from central government and we were ranked among the best five districts for using money effectively,” he said.

Mr Kiyingi claimed Mr Museveni was dodging public blame for failing to deliver his pledges in time.
“This road has appeared in the national Budget for more than a decade but without any progress until we (as MPs) increased the pressure through Parliament that was finally considered,” he said.
