Museveni Busoga cash haunts minister Kibuule

MUKONO. State minister of Water Ronald Kibuule has defended himself against accusations by his constituents that he has done nothing for them and he can only be remembered for taking sacks of money to Busoga sub-region.

Commissioning two shallow wells on Wednesday in Kapeke village, Nama Sub-county, Mukono District, Mr Kibuule, also the Mukono north MP, noted that as a minister, he takes orders from the President and therefore, could not have refused to carry the President’s sacks of money that were later to be handed over to youth groups in Busoga.
In 2013, the minister represented President Museveni at a youth function in Busoga where he handed to them a sack containing Shs125m. The act attracted criticism from the public.
Minister for the Presidency Frank Tumwebaze then said the president decided to carry the cash because in the past, the money was being stolen.

“Did you want me to refuse when the president told me to carry the cash? I am an obedient man who cannot do that,” he said.

The minister, however, told his constituents that the president had done a similar cash donation of Shs150m, which he made to vendors in Namawojjolo market. “I am your son and you must know that a parent does not throw away his/her child simply because he/she has made a mistake. What a parent does is to continue loving and talking to his child,” he said.

The minister has been facing criticism from his constituents who accuse him of being rare in the constituency.
Mr Kibuule said the two water sources worth Shs8m would go along way in reducing waterborne diseases among the residents since some have been sharing drinking water with cattle.
Mr Kibuule asked donors to construct a maternity ward in the area so as to save mothers from travelling long distances to deliver.

Mr Travis Bogere, the executive director of a local NGO, Fredafrica, which constructed the well, asked residents to own the water sources and put in place a committee to look after them.
