Museveni to address Parliament over increasing kidnap, murder cases

  • During the reading of national budget last week, Mr Museveni said the unknown assailants who killed the MP and his brother in Kawanda Wakiso District were seen lingering near his home before the attack.

President Museveni will on Wednesday morning address Parliament about the security situation of the country amid increasing reported cases of kidnaps and murder that have left citizens in fear.

Shortly after Finance Minister Matia Kasaijja had read the national budget at Serena Hotel in Kampala on June 14, 2018, Mr Museveni asked Parliament to give him time to address Ugandans on the issue of increased insecurity in the country.
“Please speaker, give me time next week to come and address this issue of insecurity in Parliament,” Mr Museveni said.
Mr Museveni’s press secretary, Ms Linda Nabusayi today (Monday June 18) said: “HE the President will address a special sitting of Parliament on the security situation in the country. Wednesday June 20 at 9am.”

A spate of kidnaps and murders have claimed several lives in the country with women and children being victimized most.
The latest incident is the murder of Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga and his brother, Saidi Buga who doubled as his bodyguard.
During the reading of national budget last week, Mr Museveni said the unknown assailants who killed the MP and his brother in Kawanda Wakiso District were seen lingering near his home before the attack.

He urged Ugandans to be more vigilant and cautious about their personal security.
