Mbarara- FDC party president Mugisha Muntu has said President Museveni does not fear individual presidential contestants but a united Opposition with good strategies.

While meeting party delegates from Ankole sub-region in Mbarara Town on Wednesday, Gen Muntu said it’s not individuals but unity and superior organisation that can unseat Mr Museveni.

“People out there seem to be confused and are now asking who of Mugisha Muntu, Besigye or Amama Mbabazi will manage Museveni. But I tell you Museveni does not fear any of us but fears only two things; unity and superior organisation,” said the FDC leader, who is seeking to carry the party flag in next year’s presidential elections.
However, presidential press secretary Tamale Mirundi dismissed Gen Muntu’s assertion that Mr Museveni fears superior organisation.

“President Museveni is an expert in defeating organised enemies. In 1996, he defeated UPC, DP and some groups in Mengo. Besigye has all this time been fronted by a coalition. Museveni does not fear unity but likes unity for a purpose,” said Mr Mirundi.

Gen Muntu said it is the reason he is championing unity and mobilistion through building party structures and leadership from the grassroot to the national level.

Gen Muntu also said while he appreciates achievements of former FDC president Kiiza Besigye, the party needs a new factor to consolidate and expand the party support.

Bugweri County MP Abdu Katuntu and Maj John Kazoora told delegates that FDC needs new strategies, saying Gen Muntu is the best option.
