Former Ethics minister Maria Matembe has said President Museveni lacks the will to fight corruption that has gripped Uganda.
She made the remarks on Saturday at a rally in Bukomansimbi organised by civil society organisations and the Opposition to seek support for electoral reforms ahead of 2016.
Ms Matembe said Uganda’s main problem was corruption and egoistic leaders, which she said had crippled every effort to develop the country.
However, President Museveni’s spokesman Tamale Mirundi disparaged he comments, saying Ms Matembe lacks the moral authority to comment about graft because she did not do much during her tenure as Ethics minister.
Ms Matembe said President Museveni often ignores high profile corruption cases even after they were brought to his attention.
The rally was also addressed by Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and Opposition MPs Susan Namaganda (Bukomansimbi), Joseph Ssewungu (Kalungu West) and Muwanga Kivumbi (Butambala).
