KABALE.

The president of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party, Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu, has asked people in Kigezi sub-region to join their counterparts in the other regions and ensure President Museveni leaves power in 2016 to rescue the country from collapsing with his regime.

“Release NRM and its President Museveni to fall over the cliff on which they are currently hanging and save Uganda forever. Join other regions and allow President Museveni to retire after serving his presidential term in 2016,” the retired army commander told hundreds of mourners at the burial of FDC lawyer Wilfred Murumba in Nyaruhanga, Ikumba Sub-county in Kabale District, on Friday.

“Uganda is sitting on a political time bomb and it’s the Ugandans to stop it from blasting by allowing President Museveni to retire,” Maj Gen Muntu said.

Murumba succumbed to liver and kidney failure on April 7 at Kampala Hospital. He is survived by four children and widow, Ms Serinah Murumba.
Former FDC president Kizza Besigye told the people never to beg President Museveni for service delivery because he is their servant. He decried the poor state of health services and hospitals in Uganda which he blamed on the country’s poor leadership.

“Stop begging for services from President Museveni, instruct him to deliver services to you because he is your worker whom you elected to serve you. If it was not your votes, he would not be the President of Uganda,” Dr Besigye charged.

“Don’t bother your area MPs or ministers because he will not listen to them. Demand services from Museveni directly because you are the ones that feed him and his family and you struggle to feed yourselves,” he said.

Rukungiri Municipality MP Roland Mugume Kaginda urged the mourners to vote FDC into power next year so that it can provide quality leadership the country needs.

Dr Besigye and Maj Gen Muntu promised to support the education of Murumba’s children. One of them is in third year at Makerere University, studying bachelor of laws while others are still in secondary school.

Rubanda West MP and State Minister for Economic Monitoring Henry Banyenzaki promised NRM government’s commitment to offer quality services and asked Ugandans to avoid conflict. He revealed that he mobilised his colleagues from the NRM to save Murumba’s life but God decided otherwise.

Ms Serina Murumba thanked the FDC party and several government officials for demonstrating love and support to her husband before and after his death.

The Vicar General of Kabale Diocese, Fr Sereverio Twinobusingye, presided over the requiem mass at the deceased’s home. He asked mourners to trust in the Lord for spiritual healing and to pray for Murumba’s soul to be received in heaven.
