Museveni orders evacuation of Ugandans trapped in S. Sudan

President Yoweri Museveni has ordered the evacuation of all Ugandans trapped in South Sudan following fresh clashes between forces loyal to South Sudan President Salva Kiir and those of his deputy Riek Machar which broke out last Friday and left nearly 300 people dead.
Government spokesperson Mr Ofwono Opondo Tuesday tweeted saying “President Museveni has ordered the evacuation of Ugandans in in Nisitu, east of R. Nile S.Sudan by road.”
This was followed by the army spokesperson statement saying Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) would help to conduct the evacuation.

“UPDF will not deploy in Juba. Few troops to secure movement of evacuated civilians,” tweeted Col Paddy Ankunda.
This comes just a day after five Ugandan businessmen were Monday evening reported killed in an ambush following the continued clashes. According to eye witnesses, the incident happened at Aruu junction inside South Sudan.

Police also announced that the security agencies will not allow travellers to South Sudan.
Mr Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson on Monday told journalists at police Headquarters in Naguru in Kampala that joint meeting of police, army and other security agencies held at the weekend, resolved that Ugandans be restricted from travelling to South Sudan because of the fragile security situation.
