Moroto- President Museveni has ordered investigations into land grabbing in Karamoja sub-region where many residents face eviction by some people purporting to be investors.

The President made the orders last Friday during an ecumenical peace convocation in Moroto District.

He made the orders after the Moroto District chairperson, Mr Mark Aol Musoka, presented complaints of land grabbing.

Mr Musoka said most of the said investors have acquired land titles without the knowledge of the local people.

The President said the land belongs to the people of Karamoja and there is no body that should rush and survey it without consulting the owners.

“Nobody should give a land title to any person buying land without authentication of the district land board and the sub county land area committee,” he said.

There are over 140 investors doing exploration and mining in Karamoja sub -region.

Meanwhile, the President has asked Ugandans to be patient with him on unfulfilled promises.

He said although the county has now got much more money as a result of the growth of the economy, there are many things which needed to be done first.

Mr Museveni said the country was first embarking on infrastructure, electricity before it embarks on fulfilling pledges such as increment of teacher’s salaries.

He also warned Christians against believing in false prophets saying the suffering that Karamoja went through was caused by a false prophet who deceived them that the gun was the source of income but the gun later made them to kill each other.

The peace convocation under the theme “Renaissance of Karamoja” was attended by over 1,000 people across the country and the neighboring countries of Kenya, Ethiopia and South Sudan.

Church of Uganda Karamoja Diocese Bishop Joseph Abura, said the purpose of the five -day prayers was for the Karimojong to ask for forgiveness from the communities they had once terrorised.

They accepted to forgive the Karimojong
The communities include Iteso, Bagisu, Sabiny, Lango and Acholi.

The Karimojong also denounced any form of cattle rustling, worshiping idols and ambushing vehicles on the road.
