President Yoweri Museveni has commended the Seventh Day Adventist Church for combining the preaching of the gospel with the economic emancipation of its followers, a path, he said, the NRM Party believes in.
“The Bachwanga (SDA) don’t only preach the gospel but also deal with economic issues. Yesterday when I met you (Pastor Dr. Ted Wilson President of SDA) in Entebbe, you told me that part of the pillar of SDA is to deal with the health issue and feed the hungry like Jesus did. That is what our Party, the NRM, believes,” he told the cheering congregation.
The President, who was on his way to Northern Uganda, made the remarks on Saturday when he joined the SDA community at Kololo ceremonial grounds in their Sabbath prayers.
Dr Ted Wilson, accompanied by his wife, Nancy, has been on a pastoral visit to Uganda since 14th February 2018.
President Museveni once again warmly welcomed Pastor Dr. Ted Wilson and his spouse Nancy Wilson to Uganda. He hailed the church for teaching him the alphabet, which he recited to the congregation and also praised the followers of the SDA Church for being law abiding and strict Christians.
Mr. Museveni called on the visiting SDA President to emphasize to the members of the faith the mandate bestowed upon them by God to establish dominion over nature.
Vice President, Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi and Deputy Parliamentary Speaker, Jacob Oulanya, among other dignitaries, were at the service that was graced by the leader of the SDA Church in Uganda, Dr. Daniel Matte.
