President Museveni’s father, who was reported to be in intensive care unit at International Hospital in Kampala, is steadily recovering.

Although details of Mzee Amos Kaguta’s failing health remain a closed family affair, Dr Diana Atwine, the family physician, yesterday disclosed that Mr Kaguta is steadily recovering although she did not know when he would be discharged.

“Somebody called me again yesterday from your newspaper and I told him he was steadily recovering. This is private family matter. Why are you following it up?” she asked.

Over the past few days, residents living on the Namuwongo-Kisugu road have been excited by the presidential convoy as President Museveni pays regular visits to his father.

This newspaper came to learn about Mzee Kaguta’s ill health on Saturday morning following a similar trip to the private hospital.

When contacted on Saturday, Dr. Atwine confirmed the old man’s admission to the hospital saying anytime he would be discharged. When contacted yesterday, she said she was not sure when he will be discharged.

“But every day the President checks on his father if he is within the vicinity,” she said by telephone, adding that the daily visits by the President to the father should not be a source of anxiety.
