President Museveni has asked Ugandans living on the shores of Lake Victoria to desist from activities that could cause its destruction and extinction of aquatic life.

The President who was speaking to residents of Bukooli Island at Bugoma Primary school on household poverty eradication at the weekend, noted that catching immature fish and cultivation at the edge of the water body cou
have disastrous consequences. “This is free wealth you are misusing.

I feel very sorry and annoyed. Our fishermen catch immature fish. How will the fish survive and multiply?” the president asked.

He pointed out that cultivating on the shoreline of the lake would cause silting and eventually lead to its drying up and ultimately an end to fishing activity, which is a livelihood of citizens on the islands and shores.
