President Yoweri Museveni is today, expected to commission the shs8bn Uganda Youth Innovation Centre in Namulanda village along Entebbe road in Wakiso district.

The chairperson of the innovation centre, Hilary Musoke, said the project kicked off a few years ago to empower the youth in developing their talents and skills.

“The Uganda Youth Innovation Centre does not discriminate. In terms of empowering the youth, we welcome all sects from the Democratic party, FDC, NRM and others who would like to harness their skills to develop the country,” said Musoke.

Musoke noted that the project is part of government’s wider plans of fighting youth unemployment in the country.

According to the 2012 survey by Uganda Bureau of Statistics, the rate of unemployment in Wakiso district stands at 28 per cent among the youths.
