Five dead, four injured in Kiryandongo car crash

Five people died in a motor accident that occurred in Kiryandongo District last night.
The accident happened at Chepelwo trading centre, Kibanda North at about 9pm when a taxi registration number UAY 648/R rammed into a stationary trailer registration number UAP 370 L/ of SSD-437D, according to eye witnesses.

Police identified the deceased as Fredrick Sunde, 31, a resident of Kakungulu village, Kawempe Division in Kampala; Joseph Adepo, 43, an employee of National Forestry Authority (NFA) and resident of Namawojjolo in Mukono District; Tommy Ojoko, 44, a resident of Kawoko LCI in Mutunda Sub County in Kiryandongo District and one Ilario, 50, a resident of Kigoma I village in Kiryandongo District.

The Albertine regional police spokesperson, Mr Julius Hakiza said the fifth person is yet to be identified.
Mr Hakiza said the injured include Vicky Auma, 19, a resident of Kisura village, Naomi parish, Mutunda Sub County in Kiryandongo District; Ronald Waswa, 29, the driver of the taxi and resident of Mutungo zone in Kampala.

Others are Patrick Opio, 40, a resident of Dokolo District and Asisi Benson, 30, a resident of Arua District.
The injured one were taken to Kiryandongo Hospital for treatment.
"The accident could have been caused by reckless driving by the taxi driver," Mr Hakiza said on Sunday.
He further noted that investigations were underway to establish the actual cause of the accident under vide TAR 67/2018.
