The NRM will not tolerate indiscipline in the forthcoming Butaleja District Woman MP by-election, President Museveni has warned. The seat fell vacant following the recent suspicious death of MP Cerinah Nebanda.

The Electoral Commission has set February 11 for the election. According to a State House statement, the President met Butaleja leaders at his country home in Rwakitura, Kiruhura District, on Wednesday.

“Indiscipline by characters bent on marring the process of the by-election will be punished using the Constitution as well as that of the NRM,” Mr Museveni said.
The President was pleased to note that the groups vying for the seat had resolved to settle their differences and support one NRM candidate, who will emerge after the party primaries.

Ms Florence Nebanda Adiru, sister to the late Nebanda, last week declared her intentions to contest for the seat on the NRM ticket. “I want to accomplish all the programmes my sister was doing for the people of Butaleja. I know that she was building Budumba Secondary School and High Land Primary School, giving orphans and widows support,” Ms Nebanda said.

She said her sister died because she was fighting corruption in government and wanted transparency, good governance and democracy. The opposition Forum for Democratic Change is said to be fronting Ms Juliet Nabwire, who has been a counsellor at TASO Jinja.
