NRM boss in coma after falling off Mango tree
PADER
The NRM party Chairperson for Pader town council in Pader District, Mark Ojara is fighting for his life at Mulago Hospital in Kampala where he is admitted following injuries he sustained after he fell off a mango tree.
Mr Ojara who is in his 40’s reportedly fell off from a mango tree on the morning of April 22 at his residence in Olwor Central village in Pader town council while trying to pick ripe mangoes for breakfast.
The LCIII Chairperson Pader town council Mr Joseph Omona Lapit confirmed the accident saying Mr Ojara could have fallen due to the slippery tree branches following a heavy downpour the previous night.
“We got reports that the NRM boss had climbed the tree to pick some mangoes as he has done so before since its mango season in the region. It could have been possible that he slid or held on a weak tree branch causing his fall,” Mr Lapit told Daily Monitor in a telephone interview on Saturday.
He added that Mr Ojara landed head first on the ground causing him to blackout immediately.
“His children who heard him fall rushed out of the house and found him unconscious; they informed the elders who rushed him to a nearby health center before being taken to Kitgum Hospital. He was later referred to Mulago Hospital because his condition worsened,” Mr Lapit said.
He advised residents to be cautious on climbing mango trees during the rainy season arguing it’s risky both for adults and children.
Mr Justine Ochen, the NRM party Mobilizer for Pader District described the incident as regrettable.
“As NRM party, we are praying for his quick recovery, we understand that he is in a bad condition but we hope for the best. The NRM party secretariat in Kampala has been informed about the incidence and we expect some financial assistance for our brother’s medical bills,” Mr Ochen said.
Mr Ochen said Computed Tomography brain scan (CT scan) carried out by doctors revealed that Mr Ojara suffered heavy head injury that caused a spill of blood on his brain.
By Press time, a relative of Mr Ojara who didn’t want to be named in this article confirmed that his brother is still unconscious and admitted at Surgery ward 3B at Mulago Hospital where doctors are doing their best to ensure he recovers.
