The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders in President Museveni’s home district of Kiruhura have endorsed the removal of presidential age limit from the constitution.

During the NRM country wide consultative meeting on the proposed constitution amendment at Kashwa Church of Uganda on Thursday, the NRM district executive passed a resolution to front Mr Museveni for the 2021 presidential campaigns.

While addressing the leaders, Chairman of National Entrepreneur’s league, NRM and coordinator of greater Mbarara, Dr Robert Mwesigwa Rukaari, urged leaders to go to the grass-root to popularise the Bill initiated by Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi.

He said voting in parliament should be free and fair by all law makers.

“Democracy is basically dictatorship of the majority. NRM we are the majority in this country as we have 25 million members 12 million of whom are registered voters. So we are sure even in Parliament, we shall beat the opposition in the debate on age limit bill,” he said.

Mr Rukaari added that the removal of presidential age limit is a done deal and he warned the opposition against causing violence saying that the government will discipline them.

The district NRM chairman, Mr Shadrack Nzaire said that he will support Museveni at whatever age he stands for presidency.

“Kiruhura has spoken. No more questions on age limit,” he said.

Senior presidential veterans’ affairs assistant, western region, Mr Apollo Mabaati said that some people are ignorant about the constitution and age limit.
“ My fellow veterans in western region have already voted for the constitution amendment.” he said.
