NSSF to hold second annual members meeting tomorrow

What you need to know:

The meeting will be presided over by the minister of Finance Ms Maria Kiwanuka where as the Auditor General is also expected to attend as he will present audited financial accounts for the 2013/14 financial year

The National Social Security Fund is set to hold its second annual members meeting tomorrow (28th October).

The event that will take place at Kampala Serena Hotel is geared towards recognising best employers in terms of compliance specifically those that remit contributions of their employees in time and in right amounts.

Minister of Finance Ms Maria Kiwanuka will preside over the meeting, where as the Auditor General who is also expected will present audited financial accounts for the 2013/14 financial year.

The Acting Managing Director, Ms Geraldine Ssali Busuulwa in a statement to the public urged all members and employers to attend stating that this will be an opportunity for everyone to have their say in the management of the fund.

“The meeting is for the members to not only demand answers from the Fund’s Board and Management but also share their views with us. In line with our commitment to serving them better, we will listen to their views and execute,” the statement reads in part.

"....We will report to our members, who are the owners of the Fund, our performance over the last year, and give them a picture of the strategic direction of the Fund as we aim to continue delivering on our renewed promise and meet their social security needs. We will also hear from members how they expect their Fund to be managed,” The statement reads

Members who can not make it for the meeting are expected to follow the event on Television (NTV) as well as social media platforms Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) is National Saving Scheme mandated by Government through the National Social Security Fund Act, Cap 222 (Laws of Uganda) to provide social security services to employees in Uganda.

NSSF is a provident fund (pays out contributions in lump sum). It covers all employees in the private sector including Non-Governmental Organizations that are not covered by the Government's pension scheme.
It is a scheme instituted for the protection of employees against the uncertainties of social and economic life.
