KAMPALA.

Plain clothed men have this morning (Tuesday) started the demolition on Nakivubo Stadium stands just a day Park Yard Market in down town Kampala was demolished and vendors evicted.

The stadium which is next to the market destroyed yesterday has been subject of controversy following a court order that had stopped its initial redevelopment just last month.

The stadium has been surrounded by the police and journalists have been blocked from accessing it.

Our reporter who accessed the stadium shortly before she was chased out, saw plain clothed men breaking old structures, a development expected to pave way for redevelopment by businessman, Hamis Kiggundu.

The stadium also neighbors Kalita Bus Terminal and operators are panic as part of the wall separating the terminal and the stadium has been brought down.

Mr Joseph Mugume, the manager of Kalita Transporters Limited told Daily Monitor that he was called at 1am in the night that some civilians were demolishing everything.

Mr Mugume said that the toilet used by passengers and center of the bus terminal were excavated and properties of passengers were stolen in the process.

Mugume added that his team approached police but they were ignored.

"We are now puzzled because when we reached the venue, bulldozers were excavating everything and when we approached old Kampala police, no help was given to us," Mr Mugume said.

Mr Mugume who said he had just signed a five year contract with the stadium management added that he has no option but to court following the demolition of his work place.

At the time of filing this report, our reporter was still trying to get in touch with the management of the stadium who are currently locked up in a meeting.
