Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has denied allegations that former leader of opposition in parliament and deputy treasurer of the FDC party Nandala Mafabi has left the party.
FDC party spokesperson John Kikonyogo told this newspaper that the allegations that the Budadiri County West MP- Sironko District has thrown in towels are being propagated by cynics, saying they are envious of their party’s unity.
“It is true that Hon Mafabi stopped serving at the end of his term as deputy treasurer last year in February but those rumours (that some members have quit) came up when we were having our National Council (NC) in Luweero. They are looking for any negative criticism against us because they never wanted us to have a successful NC,” Mr Kikonyogo said.

The FDC held their NC last week in Luweero where they discussed, among other issues, constitutional amendments and the 2016 general elections.
Mr Kinyogo said the party is still intact and no senior member has quit the party.
“They were all in Luweero, including Hon Mafabi. He even advised us on finance matters,” he added.
Mr Kikonyogo further explained that when the term for the National Executive Committee (NEC) members expired in February 2013, some members stopped serving but that doesn’t mean they quit the party.

“We are all serving as volunteers and when our term in office as NEC members expired, some members including Hon Mafabi stopped working but they are still involved in other paerty activities,” Mr Kikonyogo said adding: “Hon Mafabi said he would wait for new leaders to replace the old NEC members and we have not had a problem because Hon Jack Sabiiti has been doing a good job, he even presented a financial report at the NC in Luweero.”
Mr Kikonyogo said the party did not promptly hold polls to elect new leaders for lack of sufficient funds.
“We had had some financial problems and were had to investigate and settle the problems surrounding our previous elections in Namboole in 2012,” Mr Kikonyogo said.
He added that the party doesn’t pride in rushing to hold an election that might not be free and fair.
